A woman has been left in critical condition following a “serious” crash on the A9.

The collision, involving a car and a lorry, happened at Delny Muir near Invergordon around 10.30am on Tuesday.

The passenger of the car, a 56-year-old woman, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where she remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the car, a 22-year-old man, was also taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

Police confirmed that the driver of the lorry was not injured in the incident.

The road was closed while investigations were carried out and fully reopened around 6.30pm.

Road policing officers are now appealing for witnesses following the collision.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed that enquiries into the incident are “ongoing” and have urged anyone with information to get in tough.

Road policing sergeant Calum MacAulay said: “Enquiries into exactly what happened are ongoing and I’d urge anyone who saw the crash, and hasn’t already spoken to police, to get in touch.

“Motorists with dashcam footage of the area at the time, please review this. I’m particularly keen to trace any footage of the black BMW 318 or the silver MAN HGV before the crash. If you’ve captured this, please bring it to our attention.

“Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting reference 0991 of December, 19.”
