Rail Cargo Group to expand in Serbia and China
Rail Cargo Group (RCG), the freight arm of the Austrian Federal Railways (OBB), will expand with a new branch and a new carrier in Serbia and the Balkans in 2023. The announcements were made at the OBB annual press conference on Monday, 21 November. Moreover, during the press conference, OBB CEO Andreas Mattha and RCG CEO Clemens Forst also announced that RCG will invest in rolling stock for the transportation of waste in Austria.
The investments will start at the beginning of 2023, with 75 million euros that will be allocated to help the shift of waste transportation from road to rail in the country.
A new RCG carrier company in Serbia and a new RCG branch in China
RCG will launch a new carrier company in Belgrade, Serbia. "This step enables TransFER to offer connections towards Turkey and Greece via two alternative routes", RCG commented. For the first time, the Austrian company will have its own connection to Greece, Mattha and Forst mentioned during the press conference. With this new initiative, RCG plans on creating a valid alternative route to southeast Europe through Romania.
The Austrian company, therefore, aims to ease congestion in the area and to provide a different solution in case of accidents or other issues. In addition, Mattha and Forst also announced that RCG will open a new RCG branch in China as well. It will be in Shanghai and its aim will be to expand the company's routes on the Middle Corridor.
The new company will be operative as of 1 January 2023.
