Clipper Logistics gets boost from lockdown online shopping boom

he lockdown boom in online shopping fuelled sales growth for Clipper Logistics over the Christmas period, it has emerged. The deliveries and returns business, which works with supermarkets and fashion brands, said that in November and December, revenues in its logistics business were 50% higher than a year earlier. Those months included the Black Friday discount  event (in November) and some periods where high street shops had to temporarily shut for lockdown rules.

A number of retailers have been looking for more logistics space and transport to cope with a wave of new online shoppers won during the coronavirus crisis.

Steve Parkin, executive chairman of Clipper Logistics, said: "Our strategic positioning in supporting the online trading of retailers both in the UK and Europe places us in a strong position to continue to deliver excellent returns to our shareholders."

He added: "The strength of both our underlying markets and our new business activity provide us with an excellent level of confidence in the year ahead."  

Shares in the firm gained 11.63p to 599.63p.
